Bellevue Salutes! (continued)

Here’s more information for you about this community event!

About the recipients:
–Bill Vrscak is a free-lance artist/illustrator and signature member of the American Watercolor Society. He is a realist painter whose work reflects a strong sense of freshness and simplicity, consistent with his attitude that “the simplest statements make the most impact.” A frequent national award winner, his work is widely published. Vrscak studied painting and design at the Ivy School of Art in Pittsburgh and currently teaches painting workshops throughout the United States and Canada.
–Lou Schreiber is a widely acclaimed jazz musician, known primarily for his saxophone work, though he also plays piano, clarinet, and keyboard. He has played with such greats as George Benson, Dizzy Gillespie, Maynard Ferguson and the Four Freshmen, as well as Buddy Rich and Louis Prima. He played at the William Penn Hotel as a solo pianist in the Palm Court for 18 years, and you can often hear samples of his work on our local jazz station, WDUQ.
–An expert in the Italian Bel Canto, Miss Pinza is a former leading soprano with the Metropolitan Opera, La Scala, San Francisco and other major opera companies. For the past twenty years she has devoted herself to teaching, bringing to her students a world of opera experience. Presently, Claudia Pinza teaches at the University of Pittsburgh and Duquesne University. She also gives master classes in various opera houses around the country, including the Metropolitan Opera in New York City. She founded EPCASO in memory of her father in 1981, and it sponsors a five-week Summer Opera Program which provides concentrated study and training in voice, repertoire, and language for singers. Her husband Rolando Bozzolla, organizes the program behind the scenes. He handles auditions, travel arrangements, scholarships and the fund raising.

Bellevue Salutes!

Don’t miss out on the celebration of local artists’ success this Sunday, when Bill Vrscak, Lou Schreiber, Claudia Pinza and Rolando Bozzolla will be presented with certificates of achievement by Mayor George Doscher.

The festivities begin at 4pm at Affogato and continue until 7pm. There are 5 raffles with prizes donated from local merchants and the drawing will occur at 6:30pm. Tickets will be for sale all week at Dari-Villa, Plank Eye Skate Shop, La Prima Espresso (in the Strip), and Affogato. There will also be art, pottery, and coffee for sale, the proceeds of which will all go to Building New Hope.  All monies collected from the $5 door cover as well as the raffle sales will be donated to Building New Hope to support their community-driven efforts in Nicaragua and El Salvador.

The $5 cover includes free drip coffee (BNH’s Nicaraguan blend) and lemonade. For those with other cravings, Affogato’s entire menu will be available for the duration of the event. There will also be live music in the backyard, including Gene Stovall and Xelazaid; if we’re lucky, Lou Schreiber will play a few tunes too. Don’t miss out on a good time honoring our fellow residents and supporting a good cause.
