Who’s thirsty in Bellevue? Alcohol Petition signing

Petition signing info:
Start Date: February 17th
Deadline: March 10th (5pm)

Where to sign: Lincoln Barbershop
514 Lincoln Ave.
Pgh, 15202

Needed: 1,019 signitures to place this issue on the May 19th ballot?
(based on 25% of the number of Bellevue voters that came out this past Presidential election.)

***MUST BE A BELLEVUE RESIDENT TO SIGN!!********
***MUST BE A REGISTERED(BELLEVUE) VOTER!!*******
***NEED TO COME BACK OUT AND VOTE “YES” ON MAY 19TH*******

Question would read on petition & ballot:
Do you favor the granting of liquor licenses for the sale of liquor in the Borough of Bellevue?
R-license (liquor,wine,malt) -restaurants

FACTS:
-If passed, this would allow Bellevue only 3 liquor licenses.
(there goes your fear of Bellevue turning into the SouthSide)

-Since there has not been any licenses in Bellevue-the Borough would have the right to approve what those 3 would be!
So there must be a strategic plan to allow certain businesses in to jumpstart Lincoln Ave.”

The idea behind this referendum is not about “BARS” it’s about “ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT”.

SOME THINGS TO THINK ABOUT:
-These 3 liquor licenses must stay on Lincoln Ave.
-They also have to be “DESTINATION” establishments. Meaning, we need to have places to attract outside people into Bellevue plus pull Bellevue residents back out onto the streets after 5pm.
-These 3 new “DESTINATION” businesses would open the doors to allow new businesses to fill in the many empty store fronts along the ave. For example Boutiques and Specialty stores.
-Without the latter foot traffic past 5pm-these types of stores will not take a risk in our town.
-MORE TAX REVENUE!.-with these new businesses filling in the empty store fronts.
new businesses = foot traffic = $$$$ for merchants = $$$ for the borough.
maybe your taxes won’t keep going up.
-Busy weekends with these 3 new alcohol establishments plus new store fronts, Lincoln Ave won’t look like a ghost town.
-Must attract younger families/younger business professionals to want to live(buy a house) in Bellevue.
Pluses:bus line, closness to downtown, necessity stores.
Minus: nothing to do in town-the young pofe$$ional likes to go to happy hours and unwind/$hop close to home-so where are they living?-Squirrel Hill, Shadeyside, Southside-
I say”WHY NOT BUY IN BELLEVUE?”

THE VISION:
-Mexican restaurant
-Brewery(specialty beers and good food-look what they did in Slippery Rock-once a dry town!
www.northcountrybrewing.com
-Irish Pub (How about up near the Celtic Collection in the empty plaza-this would pull people up to the forgotten part of Bellevue)
www.montereypub.com
-Sports themed bar(done properly)-could also double as a live music venue later at night
-Movie theater-with a wine bar attached-
(this one is my idea-i am working on putting a movie theater on the 3rd floor of the old GC Murphy building-problem is- one screen movie theaters don’t make any money-the alcohol will provide the revenue needed to operate the theater.-A properly run theater would be a huge draw to Bellevue.
if interested in my theater idea click on my name to the right of the home page, “AARON STUBNA”, this will take you to my Garden theater idea-same theater can work here in Bellevue.)

you get the idea.

I won’t mention any names, but another business owner once told me that “people got to realize that Bellevue is what it is.”
well I don’t believe that-I believe if we work together-set the standards a little higher we could make Bellevue a better place for all.

WHO AM I AND WHY DO I WANT THIS?
My name is Aaron Stubna owner of Lincoln Barbershop.(3 chair shop)
It is a family business - I am 3rd generation.
We have been in Bellevue-same location for 43 years.
I have been there for 17 years.
Even though we are a very successful business on the ave.-I look out my window and see the steady decline of our business district-many empty storefronts (when we get yet another pizza shop-that is not progress) and the riff raff that comes out after 5pm.
Thats right Bellevue already has the riff raff without the bars!
I wonder how much longer most of us will be around the next 5-10 years?
The idea is to create more foot traffic and take our streets back!

I also lived in Bellevue 15 years ago-starting out my family-right on Sheridan Ave.-We stuck around for a few years then left-nothing to do in town.
Moving the family to another town was an easy decision.
My business is another story-so for the nay/sayers don’t even suggest such a silly idea-telling one of your longest successful business to leave is not the solution.

We must market Bellevue a whole new way and make it more attractive to the public and this is step one.
Alcohol is not the solution but properly monitored (with some strict ordinances), Bellevue could once again become the place to go and shop as it once was many many years ago.

I only have a vision to make Bellevue better.
HERE IS A FEW OTHER THINGS I DID THIS PAST SUMMER-IF YOU DID’NT KNOW ABOUT THIS STUFF BLAME YOUR LOCAL PAPER.
Bellevue ‘08-’09
January ‘08- Turned Barber Shop into an art gallery-displaying local artists works (6 artists at a time) every month complete with opening night w/ wine , cheese, live music and the artist themselves.

February ‘08- Started booking live music acts (Jazz, Acoustic, spoken word) at Club Perqe’, underneath Vivo Restaurant in Bellevue -12 events.
see “Club Perqe’” and “What you Missed” pages on this site:
web.mac.com/gardentheatervision.com

May ‘08- Organized and ran an Art/Wine Crawl in Bellevue-a dry town. A big success- over 200 outsiders came to Bellevue to tour 13 different stores and the main event took place at the old GC. Murphy building.
9 music acts
15 different artists
street performers.

August ‘08- Organized Bellevue’s 1st Farmers Market.
15 vendors every Weds. 3:30-7pm
Very Successful - will return this May.

March ’08 - Present- Overturning an ordinance in which Bellevue is a “Dry Town”, researched and got a petition to get alcohol on the ballot this May 19, 2009-history changing event (at least in Bellevue)

LETS ALL MOVE FOWARD.

Bellevue Local movie tie

Pittsburgh Post-Gazette 8/28/08

Look hard enough and you can usually find a Pittsburgh connection to almost anything..

Paul McGill, a 2006 graduate of Northgate High School and a former Bellevue resident, plays the young Philippe Petit in some of the flashbacks in “Man on Wire,” the story of the Frenchman who walked across a cable strung between the World Trade Center towers in 1974.

Paul, son of Paul and Shari McGill of Bellevue, just finished a two-year run as Mark in the Broadway revival of “A Chorus Line.” Only 21, he’s been performing on Broadway since age 17 and will appear in the remake of the 1980 musical “Fame.”

McGill trained at Rosalene Kenneth Professional Dance Studio from ages 3 to 12 and with Pittsburgh Musical Theater from age 10 until his departure for Broadway. His educational path was unconventional, to say the least, but all roads seem to lead to New York or, soon, Los Angeles.

BB Holiday Revue @ Club Perqe’ Friday July 18th

What and Where is Club Perqe’ ?
It’s a cool underground Jazz Club right out of New York City - located in Bellevue !
Below Vivo restaurant (565 Lincoln Ave)
Since February we have been holding various music events-this will be our 9th show, ranging from Acoustic to Blues to Jazz, we even had a poetry/music event.
Click on the name “Aaron Stubna” located to the right of the screen to see a video tour of the club plus various videos of past music acts.
Club Perqe’ will be running through the Summer and Fall to help make Bellevue a night time destination. It is very difficult running a music club without the selling of alcohol-clubs make money from alcohol sales. So come check out this cool music space to see what can happen - with the right ingredient - the potential Lincoln Ave can have.
